Travertine is a much softer stone than granite. It is a type of Limestone, a sedimentary rock formed through the laying down of organic and silicate material. The inclusion of voids within the Travertine, together with a range of natural colour tones, gives the stone great character, and means that no two pieces are exactly alike.
Travertine is either ‘tumbled’, so that it keeps its naturally rough texture, or can be supplier ‘honed and filled’, where the surfaces are polished, and any exposed voids are filled with similar coloured filler.
Caring for your Travertine products is essential to keep them looking at their best. Most products need to be sealed before installation, with a second application afterwards. Further cleaning and sealing at six-monthly intervals will maintain the appearance and functionality of tiles, shower trays and stone bowls.
